I know we were discussing this back in Joshua. Here in Judges 2:22, Isaiah makes it clear that God placed the Cananites in their path for the purpose of teaching the Hebrews to be obedient to Him. When they were obedient they were more powerful against the enemy. Note this is not prosperity doctrine. It's simply a fact that you will be more successful with obedience. Does not me adversity will never hit.
22 That through them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.
Note that "them" in verse 22 is the Cananites.
